Sometimes the sweetest stories are just what you need to get over a hump, and the author I found to do just that delivers with panache. A truly wonderful woman with a great talent, I can only say how lucky I am to have gotten a chance to meet her, and how grateful I am she was willing to do an interview with me. When did you first start writing?
I started in the sixth grade with a short story called “Priscilla’s Christmas.” I wrote it for a class project and all I can recall is the title. LOL
Did you ever consider traditional/indie publishing?
Yes, I do both now. I have an agent whom I work with on the traditional side of the business. I do my own indie thing.
How many books do you have published now?
Nine are available.
Do you have any books in the works at the moment?
Always. Just sent a book to my agent. Hope to get the second book in my historical series published this winter and write the third one soon. Plus I want to put together a cookbook.
Do you hand write or do everything on your computer?
I do both. Outlines and notes are handwritten.
If you were to write a book about your life, what would the title be?
She Should Have Known Better
Do you write one story at a time or multiple storylines?
One at a time. My brain can’t handle the overload of characters.
How do you feel about novellas or short stories?
I love them and I enjoy writing them. One of my most popular stories is a short story called “The Yard Sale.” As far as reading goes, they appeal to me because I can read them during one sitting. I think that’s a big plus and why they are so popular.
What do you consider to be your best accomplishment?
I love my New Orleans historical series and I’ve spent a lot of time researching the background. A lot of love and work is going into those books. Overall, I feel every book I write is an accomplishment. Writing is not an easy job at all.
Does writing energize or exhaust you?
Sometimes, I’m really tired, especially when there’s a deadline and I have worked from seven in the morning until midnight. Yes, I do that with only short breaks throughout the day. Whenever I am getting into the last few chapters and the end starts coming clear to me, I get energized. It’s like it is all coming together and I can’t write fast enough. It is like an adrenaline rush and when I write the end, then I crash.
How would you best classify your writing?
With the contemporary romances, feel-good, humorous romances. Everything story I write has some elements of humor that just pops in my head when I’m writing. The historicals are different in that they tend to be bigger stories, bolder, more adventure, some humor. All my stories will leave you smiling.
