KaLiCon
KaLiCon is a Canadian event with a twist that gathers lovers of books and characters together to “Bring Books to Life” on Canadian soil. Quickly becoming a highly coveted event for readers and authors of all genres, it will be an event you don’t want to miss. Location: Belleville, Ont. Canada, October 26/27, 2018 at the Travelodge Hotel in Belleville, Ontario Canada.

Reader tickets are $30.00 CAD for the full 2 days, which includes full access to everything we offer:
Author-reader speed dating, cocktail hour, access to workshops, panels etc. Author-sponsored lunch will be available for an additional $25/reader.
$30 registration fee includes:
Registration bag loaded with sponsored goodies
Full access to entire event (author-sponsored lunch on Friday is an additional cost and completely optional)
Complimentary $20 pass to the Halloween Dance Saturday night.

What is the inspiration behind KaLiCon?
The inspiration behind KaLiCon is the exciting opportunity to join the reading and writing communities in a fun, innovative environment that celebrates literacy and the love for it. Ontario offers some really well-done book conventions, however, we need more.
We are extending author registrations to authors of ALL GENRES and promoting this event to the public as such. When families walk through the door during the book signing, we want to provide a wide variety of books and genres so there is something for everyone!
Because I can’t help myself, how excited are you to be hosting this event? Not that you have to answer, but who are some of the authors that you can’t wait to meet there?
I am beyond excited to be hosting this event, in fact, I’m honoured! I’m excited to see every single person, whether we’ve met before, or only online so far. The book community is like family to me, and what better way to celebrate than in person with a huge party? Some authors attending I have had the privilege of knowing and working with for years, and others, I’m thrilled to finally get a chance to know. My favourite part of every book event is meeting the readers in person and giving them an unforgettable experience that enhances their love of books.
What all do you have planned for the event so far?
So far, we have confirmed our:
Author-Reading Speed dating (every reader gets to meet each participating author for 2 minutes per round to get to know them and their work)
An author-sponsored lunch; an elegant & intimate round table lunch with hot buffet, partially sponsored by participating authors. (there will be a sign up for readers, each author can host 9 readers, spots are available to readers for $25 / seat)
We have 4 very special author guests making a VIRTUAL appearance, they will attend via live feed and interact with the audience during a scheduled time
Major prizes, giveaways and a registration bag overflowing with sponsored goodies
Workshops/panels hosting by participating authors
One confirmed author workshop is a Cider Sampling with Kayleigh Malcolm!
KaLiCon is hosting a delightful cocktail event Friday night with a cash bar, we are providing hors d’ouevres.
Saturday is the huge book signing (over 50 authors) of all genres from 11 am – 3 pm (open to the public for FREE during the book signing only)
During the book signing we will have a massive silent auction as many of the attending authors are donating baskets. 100 % of the silent auction proceeds will be going to a charity of our choice – the YMCA Strong Kids Campaign.
We will have a food truck outside the hotel for easy access to lunch
Saturday night is a HUGE Halloween party/dance, hosted by Orlena Cain (author and local celebrity!)
There will also be a food truck outside during the Halloween party
We still have much more to confirm and will provide update announcements when these elements are confirmed, but it is, as you can see-an action-packed 2 days!
What more can we expect in terms of the KaLiCon fun!?!?
Until we can confirm, I will have to button my lip, but we are working hard to bring a few WOW factors to the event for the love of our readers. Let’s just say, our tagline of “BRINGING BOOKS TO LIFE,” we are taking to a whole new level!
So, and this is a big one, but, can I bring my family to the event too? (Also, what can my family do in the local area while I’m spending time with my AUTHORS!!!!!)
Families are why we are offering such a wide variety of authors and books! Yes, we are family friendly and will be working diligently to make sure it is a fun event with something for everyone. There are a few portions of the program that will be 19+ only, because of the cash bar, those would be the Cider Sampling, the Cocktail hour and Halloween Party. But fret not, we have some other fun planned for families and will announce once we have numbers confirmed.
The hotel offers an indoor and outdoor pool, a workout room, free wi-fi and there are a ton of things to do locally in Belleville. We have a shopping mall, movie theatre, tons of restaurants, Donini Chocolate is a fun place to sample and buy unique tasty treats.
