Out of the Woods
Little Squirrel. Imp. Younger Sister...
She never had a name until her siblings gave her one. The woman who called her dearest never called her anything but child.
She never knew where she came from, only that she hadn't come from here, but didn't know where to go back to if she could find a way to flee.
And she knew she had to flee...but not without Harp. She would never leave without Harpis.
Yet in her soul, she knew...time was growing short.
“You told me there was a Shadow that served the Darkness and chased the sun from the world; that the Shadow sought out the evils of this world and cleansed it until it was pure and unselfish and peaceful and could live in the Sweet Night that it served. You said that the Shadow was hope, and that the Shadow was just, and that the Shadow would come and right all wrongs against us.” I met his stare, this priest who wasn’t a priest, and saw the hardness in his gaze, the same truth I knew now reflected there. “There is no Shadow coming to save us.”
