I squirmed and managed to pull my legs from beneath the comforter, lost my balance as a result. For the suspended fleck of time, I floated, hanging in the air beside the bed, reaching for a hand or a rope or Gods alone knew what to stop my fall, not knowing what would embrace me when I touched the ground. Flagstone or fur rug, most likely, but the room around me shattered into broken ruins, decrepit walls pockmarked with scratches and burns, flooring that fell away into nothingness, the shadows of a castle lost to time and disrepair, unsafe for the traveler to step within, a beautiful front in theory hiding destruction within.
